CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland native Michael Symon will host an upcoming Food Network series “BBQ USA,” where he will showcase notable barbecue competitions and the pitmasters who compete.

“Michael Symon is no stranger to cooking competitions, having competed in the toughest contests known to a chef. And with his love for barbecue, Michael hits the road to visit some of the premier BBQ competitions in America, talking with the passionate pit and grill masters who devote their life to different styles of ‘cue,” said Jane Latman, the president of home and food content and streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, in a press release. “Michael is not only an award-winning and world-renowned chef admired by his peers, but also beloved by fans, which makes him the perfect guide for viewers as he tastes his way across the country.”
In “BBQ USA,” Symon will explore barbecue events and festivals around the country, like Georgia’s Rhythm & Ribs BBQ Festival, Tennessee’s World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and Texas’ Cedar Fest, according to a press release. The host will also meet with competing teams and, of course, taste some of the best ribs, smoked brisket and pulled pork in the country.
“Having the chance to travel the country and watch these ‘cue stars compete on the grandest BBQ stage was a dream come true,” Symon said in a press release. “I love a good old-fashioned culinary showdown. It doesn’t matter if it’s pork, chicken or ribs, there is nothing better than getting over the grill or smoker in the summertime to show off your skills, while interacting with the dedicated fanbase that bring these BBQ contests to life.”
Along with his previous TV experience on shows like “The Melting Pot” and “Iron Chef America,” Symon’s barbecue credentials include his well-regarded restaurant Mabel’s BBQ, which has locations in downtown Cleveland’s East 4th St. neighborhood and in Woodmere.
In the past, the chef has also operated acclaimed restaurants B-Spot Burgers, Lola Bistro, Lolita and more. In 2009, Symon earned a James Beard award for Best Chef, Great Lakes category.
