A cat accepting his fate at the grooming salon has left the internet in stitches after a video of his experience went viral on TikTok.
Shared on April 8 by Philadelphia daycare, boarding and grooming salon Groom & Board, the video has received more than 550,000 views.
The black cat is seen being washed away as the text overlay jokes that he is going through the three stages of grievance—denial, anger, and bargaining.
In the next clip, he is seen having his fur blow-dried as the text overlay says he is dealing with the last two stages—depression and acceptance.
Despite what this kitty may be telling everyone who will listen, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that a clean cat is a happy cat.
Usually, cats’ own built-in grooming tools (their tongue and teeth) are more than enough for them to keep themselves clean.
But, the ASPCA does say that if your cat is very dirty, or gets into something sticky or smelly, you may need to give them a bath. When it comes to bathing your cat, the ASPCA recommends trimming claws before a bath—for your own protection.
They also stress the importance of rewarding your cat with endless praise and their favorite treats when they tolerate a bathing session.
At Groom & Board, a cat can have a full treatment, including shampoo, conditioner, blow dry, brush, ear cleaning, and nail clipping, for around $65. Often sharing their fluffy clients on their TikTok account groomandboard, they have more than 10,000 followers who delight in seeing the animal transformations.
While clients are usually canine, this kitty’s grooming session has captured hearts online—prompting giggles from TikTok users.
“His therapist will hear about this,” joked one comment on the video. While another TikToker wrote: “So dramatic.”
“There is no acceptance,” wrote another commenter: “He is plotting and scheming.”
Another pet groomer who commented on the video was impressed with the effort and wrote: “As a fellow pet groomer [I’ve] only had one cat in ten years that let me blow dry.”
While one TikTok user who had also been through the cat-bathing ordeal wrote: “[I] had to bath my cat yesterday, now he comes up to me and randomly bites my feet.”
After the video captured viral attention, the groomer who took care of the angry feline shared the video on her TikTok account with her story.
She said: “So that’s me grooming the cat in the video. I wear it’s nowhere near as bad as they’re making it out to be,” and joked “This glowing review should be reason enough to schedule an appointment immediately.”
