The vet’s letter, which has a paw print inked at the bottom, reads: “The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun does down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.
“The music stops, yet echoes on in sweet soulful refrains. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.”
Sharing their thoughts on the letter, one user said: “I am awestruck by how considerate and touching this is. The pawprint makes me sad though.”
While another user added: “You just made a 35-year-old guy shed a tear for a boyhood pet long gone.
“The pain goes away although sometimes you’ll be reminded how much you miss them but 18 years on and the great memories still live on.
“I’m happy for you that you got to say goodbye. Take care.”
Sharing their own experience of having to put down a pet, one user said: “I have tears in my eyes now. We had to put down our 18-years-old poodle a few months ago, I still have a hard time trying to accept she’s not waiting for me at our front door after I come back from work like she did since I was in school
“But at least, every time I see our front door there’s the vivid memory of her, and all the good memories with my friend for life come together every day. I have tears of joy in my eyes.”
Another user added: “My vet did something very similar – made a plaster law print. We’ve since put it in a small shadow box with a picture behind it.”
