Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover practically admits that he’s involved in the upcoming Lando Calrissian series for Disney+.
Donald Glover may be involved in the Lando Calrissian spin-off series after all.
We Jimmy Kimmel Live!the host mentioned that the actor was working on the lando series, and Glover played coy. “Am I? Just telling all my business,” the actor said. “No, yeah, I have a lot of things. I like to blossom then go away. Right now is definitely the start of another one of those. I have like a ton of stuff I’ve been working on, but I just want it all to come out at the same time, so I feel like that’s what’s important.”
Glover appeared as a young Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Storyand while the movie’s box office numbers were the weakest entry in the Star Wars live-action movie franchise, the actor’s take on the character was well-received. The playboy con artist turned Cloud City administrator was first played by Billy Dee Williams in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back as an old friend of Han’s despite their complicated partnership. The character’s popularity evidently hasn’t wavered.
The limited event series lando was first announced at Disney’s Investor Day in December 2020, but there hasn’t been much news in regards to it since then. Considering the problems the ongoing pandemic has caused for film productions, and Glover’s assortment of projects that keeps him busy, the silence isn’t too surprising.
Season 3 of Glover’s surreal comedy/drama Atlanta premiered March 24 on FX, and he’s still writing the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series for Amazon Prime Video following Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s exit. With The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett showing just how successful Star Wars series can be, it’s unlikely that they’d leave another potential hit by the wayside.
Justin Simien, the creator of Netflix’s Dear White People film and the subsequent series, will develop lando, but there aren’t many details in regards to casting and the plot. Emilia Clarke, who played Qi’ra in SoloHan’s partner turned Crimson Dawn lieutenant, said back in 2020 that she wouldn’t resume her role on the lando series, but much can change in a few years. With her role in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasionshe could find herself back in the Star Wars universe.
The next Star Wars series coming to Disney+ is Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor as the titular character. It takes place post-Revenge of the Sith during the reign of the Galactic Empire, who are on the hunt for surviving Jedi, and features Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
lando doesn’t yet have a release date on Disney+.
