Supermarket sign leaves shoppers outraged with some claiming it’s RACIST – so can you spot why there is trouble in aisle 10?
- Coles supermarket under fire for placing Asian cuisine in aisle with pet food
- Sign in front of aisle 10 of the undisclosed store was posted to Reddit
- Shoppers said the combination was racist sparking a heated debate
An Australian supermarket which placed Asian groceries and pet food in the same aisle has sparked outrage online.
The bizarre layout of the Coles store was called out on Reddit on Tuesday and quickly triggered a flood of comments.
The sign in front of aisle 10 read ‘Cat food, Dog food, Asian’ – whish some claimed was even racist.
‘How are these even related,’ one person said.
‘Three quarters of the supermarkets I’ve been in have the same layout, weird this sneak in?’ a second said.
Shoppers were left baffled by the strange aisle combination at a Coles store with many debating on Tuesday why Asian items would be grouped with dog and cat food (pictured)
Some eagle-eyed observers noted the adjacent aisle has a similarly strange combination with rice lumped in among cleaning products and air freshener.
‘Looking at the other isle, it’s just as quirky… in a week it’ll be different again, they’re trying layouts,’ one person said.
‘It’s pretty clever if you want customers to use every aisle,’ agreed another.
Some commenters even said the combination was racist by placing the Asian items among the unfit-for-human-consumption dog and cat food.
‘It’s an assumption to play racist card, more than likely it’s probably just oversight,’ one person reasoned.
But the most popular reason seemed to be that the store was likely undergoing some sort of work requiring stock to be temporarily moved.

‘Are they in the process of rearranging the store? My local Woolies is being updated and has a few wacky aisle combos at the moment,’ one person said.
‘Yeah, seems like the part of the store where they have rice and Asian food together is out of commission or being renovated,’ another added.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for comment.
